Middle School EEL Program

Middle School ELL Program Overview

Grades 7-8

Students that are qualify as an English Learner will attend their neighborhood middle school (College Place Middle, Alderwood Middle, Brier Terrace Middle School or Meadowdale Middle)to receive the appropriate support services. All ELL programs include an ELL class specifically designed to develop English Proficiency skills. Students are enrolled in ELL classes based on the Language Level determined by the WELPA. In addition to the ELL classes students participate in general education courses which include both subject matter classes (science, history, e.g.) and electives classes. Subject matter classes may be comprised solely of English Language Learners or comprised of both native English speakers and English Language Learners. All classes use the district model of Sheltered Instruction to support the diverse language needs of English Language Learners. Please contact your student’s school for more information on classes offered specifically for ELL.

Middle School English Language Acquisition Curriculum

At the Middle School Level, English Language Learners use the Curriculum Inside by Hampton Brown in their ELL class. Inside, is a curriculum designed specifically for English language Learners. The curriculum uses specific English development strategies to help student reach grade level performance in Reading and Writing.
