24 Credit Graduation Requirement – Starts with the Class of 2021
Posted on 03/29/2018

Current 9th grade students and younger will be required to earn 24 high school credits, a change from the current 22 credit requirement. Part of this change includes the requirement that students take three credits of science instead of the two credits now required.

It is important that students and their families understand this requirement and what it means for the learning pathways ahead of them. High school students take six classes a year, so over four years, students have 24 credit opportunities. It is important to select courses carefully and that students strive to pass all of their courses so that they are able to graduate on time.

Letters were included with each student’s registration materials or sent directly to families with students in grades 6, 7, 8 and 9 with more detail regarding the new requirement, including a graphic highlighting the different pathways. All requirements, including family letters and the graphic may also be found on our newly updated Graduation Requirements website.
