Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation Grants

Grab & Go Art Distribution
Students using art supplies

Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation continues to support our students, even in the middle of a pandemic

COVID-19 may have cancelled the 2020 Arts Festival – the Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation’s main income source, but it hasn’t stopped them from finding ways to support arts education in our schools. In May when learning went online the Foundation sprang into action providing $10,000 in art supplies handed out through the school district’s Grab and Go Meal program. Focusing mainly on our lower grades, watercolor paint pallets and brushes, colored pencil sets with erasers and sharpeners, sidewalk chalk and paper were handed out to over 2,000 students.

Fall Semester the Foundation turned their sights towards secondary grade support, gifting the School District’s middle and high school art programs $10,000. Visual Arts teachers were given the discretion to tailor their purchases to the specific materials needs of their students. Over 1600 students received art supplies to use at home while they received online instruction.

Spring semester brings a new set of students, with a renewed need for home-bound materials. EAFF reached out to the Hazel Miller Foundation for matching support and was awarded an additional $10,000. This support is directed towards 7-12th grade students with an emphasis on supporting those schools serving a higher population of free/reduced lunch families. Over 1500 students are served with this grant.

In a classroom setting many supplies, such as paint brushes, drawing pencils, carving tools, straight edges, paint sets, etc. are shared between students and class periods. Remote learning has required tools and materials be sent to each individual student. The additional costs limited what mediums teachers could teach. However, with this community support, teachers have been able to add some of their mediums back into the curriculum. The teachers and students greatly appreciate the continued support from both the Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation and the Hazel Miller Foundation.
